On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March 2026, the EduVox Foundation organises the Take 6 Inspiration Weekend, with very special teachers Greg Jasperse (US) and James Rose (UK). The weekend will end with a Take 6 Vocal Jazz Jam Session on Sunday afternoon.

Take 6

If you love jazz harmonies, gospel rhythms and close harmony a cappella music, you most certainly love Take 6. Take 6 is an American a cappella (gospel) sextet formed in 1980 on the campus of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama.

This wonderful, incredibly inspirational group takes some of it’s roots based in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and integrates jazz with gospel and soul music. Name someone inspirational in the jazz / gospel / R&B scene in the past 40 years and Take 6 has probably worked with them. Names like Ray Charles, Don Henley, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, Queen Latifah, Stevie Wonder, Randy Travis, The Manhattan Transfer, Marcus Miller and Jacob Collier to name a few.

Take 6 has received 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award as well as 2 NAACP Image Awards.

In addition, James is a very sought after vocal coach and adjudicator over the entire world. They count Take 6 as one of their biggest inspirations in a cappella arrangements.

This Jazzy Dynamic Duo count Take 6 as one of their biggest inspirations in a cappella arrangements. They will be taking you all on a journey through Take 6. You will sing Take 6 arrangements; arrangements inspired by Take 6 and learn about Take 6 jazz harmonies. We will end the weekend on Sunday afternoon from 16:00h with the Take 6 Vocal Jazz Jam Session. In this session, you will jam with Greg and James. You will learn more about- and apply the complex jazz harmonies that Take 6 has made famous. You will improvise and play with the Take 6 sound. This is a special opportunity that may never be repeated. This is why for this occasion the weekend will be a bit longer than before (up to 17:30h)!

Who is this weekend for?

Choir and ensemble singers (even if you don’t have a group right now) and conductors who want to develop their own (individual) musicality, or enrich the musical experience of the group in which they sing or the group they conduct. The weekend is also interesting to (semi-) professional musicians and voice- or music teachers who’d love to apply (vocal) jazz in their programs. The arranged repertoire will be sent in advance in the form of scores and practice files. You are expected to have prepared your parts in advance at home so that we can make music quickly.
